Never a Lady
Published in Mass Market Paperback by St. Martin's Press (November, 1996)
Author: Barbara Dawson Smith

A Very Good Book
This is the first Barbara Dawson Smith book that I have read and I will definitly read more. The tranformation of Adam from arrogant noble to compassionate human being is wonderful. Mary is also transform to a passionate young lady. I highly recommend this book

Suspenseful romance..
Never A Lady is a different story. I loved the mind communication between the twins. The mystery and suspense kept me up half the night even though I was sure I knew the guilty party. I tried not to lose patience with the very stuborn duke and what he put Mary through. This is the first book I have read by Barbara Dawson Smith and I can recommend it highly. I found and bought 7 of her books at a local used book shop and won't stop until I have all she has written.

Another great one by Smith!
I don't know why Barbara Dawson Smith is not more popular, because her novels are topnotch, and Never a Lady is one of her very best. The Duke of St. Chaldon and preacher's daughter Mary Sheppard come together via their families; his brother appears to have been wounded by her sister Josephine (his mistress), whom Mary has come to aid after having a vision of her twin's distress. What makes this story intriguing and unusual is the lovers' characters: he not your typical aristocratic rake (though that's precisely what she assumes he is), but rather a man of pride, dignity, and responsibility, which makes their coming together all the more interesting, as she in turn represents everything his upbringing disdains: low birth and a disdain for the aristocracy and its values. She is refreshing first of all, in her plain name, which reflects her ugly duckling evolution in the face of the duke's haughty expectations. Secondly, she is an innocent without being prissy or overawed at her social superiors (as many heroines tend to be). These clashing perspectives are undermined by their chemistry and grudging admiration for values each holds at odds with their respective upbringings. I like the angle of the brother and sister and the added complications of the lovers becoming potential relatives whether she decides to become his mistress or wife. I also enjoyed the proposal scenes and the erotic scenes, particularly the last one in the carriage ride. The dialogue was captivating and lively, showing their wits and mutual attraction, and sweeping the reader along swiftly through to the end. I was loath to put this one down. I also highly recommend My Secret Affair, which again has some unusual lovers, especially the virginal lord, whose inexperience and reluctant passion is a fascinating read.

Sacred Places

Authors: Philemon Sturges, Giles Laroche, and Kathy Dawson

A Book for Our Times
One of the joys of having Amazon friends is that they lead you to books that otherwise would not come into your sightline. I am indebted to Alejandra Vernon for introducing this little treasure to me. Although this is a book "written for grades 4 - 6" it is much more than a children's book of beautiful pictures and brief introductory statements to accompany them. This book gently opens the common pathways between the great religions of the world, showing, subtly, that Islam, Cristianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism are all similar means to an end. That said, the author and illustrator show the wondrous differences that enhance our appreciation and respect for religions many of us don't fully understand. This book, beautifully designed and written, should be in the front of every bookstore across the world just now. Were it required reading for all people, I think we would not be at war........

the genius of Giles Laroche
Giles Laroche's numerous books are magical, and this is one of his best. It is also educational, with a clear and well written text by Philomon Sturges.
There is a short explanation of the great religions of the world: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and 26 descriptions of the places depicted. A useful world map is on the final page, so one can see exactly where these Sacred Places are.
I have had the privilege of seeing Mr. Laroche's work in a gallery setting, and marveled at its intricacy and inventiveness; his skill in using paper as an art medium is unparalleled (he calls his technique "paper relief"), and as I work with similar tools as a collage artist, I am in awe of his mastery.

The reproductions in this book are excellent, with good color (the tiles of the Dome of the Rock are gorgeous !), and Mr. Laroche's sense of perspective is also wonderful; I found the overview of the Kaaba spectacular and startling, as I never envisioned it as being in the midst of a city. The large vista of Jerusalem is also fabulous, but so are the smaller, simpler pieces, like the Wailing Wall and the Church of Agios Ioannis Theologos, which are two of my favorites.
Children of all ages will be enchanted with this book, for its instructive content, and its whimsical, exquisite art.

Amazing...
Wonderful book and the Illustrator, Giles Laroche's work
makes this book so special. I have another book with Giles's
illustrations called "Ragged Shadows" (Halloween) he signed for me while
doing his now famous paper cutting masterpieces at the Shaughnessy
School in Lowell, Massachusetts. Grab "Scared Places" while
you can!

A Season of Grief: A Comforting Companion for Difficult Days
Published in Paperback by Ave Maria Press (August, 2002)
Author: Ann Dawson
Average review score:

Wonderfully comforting book!
I have not only read this book, but I have given to people who have lost a loved one unexpectedly. Each person has commented on what a blessing this book was to them. It's very easy reading and the short chapters are helpful when concentration is hard to come by in their time of loss.

A SEASON OF GRIEF
EXCELLENT BOOK. A MUST FOR THE PASSING OF A LOVE ONE

A compilation of quotes, reflections, prayers, & poems
A Season Of Grief: A Comforting Companion For Difficult Days by newspaper columnist Ann Dawson is a compilation of quotes, reflections, prayers, poems, and heartfelt sentiment compiled for the specific purpose of offering hope and comfort to those surviving difficult loss. A Season Of Grief is very highly recommended as being an unusually thoughtful collection, with each vignette or passage brief enough for quick browsing, and a volume that presents a variety of differing, yet sincere, perspectives on dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Awakenings (Lovespell)
Published in Paperback by Love Spell (January, 1994)

One of the best
Well what can I say, this was the first novel that I have read of Ms Dawsons and I was hooked onto her woork from that moment.
It is a great story that captures your heart and imagination. I loved the idea of the Dammie and how they get a second chance at what hey do best, and how the heroine has to struggle with not only living in a new town but also her heritage and her new powers. Hope you enjoy this book as well

Well worth its price. A keeper. Couldn't put it down.
Once upon a time, the Dammai--the legendary race of sorcerers, ruled the land of the Medyars in peace. And the obelisk in the keep's tower in Katandi shone with a light so bright that all might know of their presence. But since their defeat at the hands of Kargan, the land has fallen to war & turmoil. A hundred years later, the Dammai are mere stories to frighten children...

Lord Justan, a direct descendant of Kargan, is the ruler of one of the four domains--Katandi, the former capital of the Dammai. A fierce warrior & a compassionate leader, he is determined to stop at nothing until he becomes king of ALL the Medyars. Destiny seems to smile on him when he discovers that the lythra player Rozlynd is actually the last of the Dammai. However, he doesn't count on Rozlynd herself & love she's willing to fight for...

I absolutely love these 'save the world' themes, especially if our heroes have something extra like magic/ESP to spice things up. If you liked this, another futuristic romance you'll love is Janice Tarantino's "Crystal Prophecy."

Awakenings
"Awakenings" has joined my list of 5 star books. It is well written and actually has a plot. The charactors are believeable and likeable--and are presented as someone who you could know. This book has joined a favored few that I have reread a number of times. Kudos to Saranne Dawson for this book.

British Columbia: The Romantic History of Dawson Creek in Four Complete Novels

Wonderful story about a Canadian town!
This has nothing to do with the televison show since Dawson's Creek isn't real (and isn't even a town) but it is so wonderful! Besides being inexpensive you get four wonderful books in one! If you look in the back you will find other titles that are just as good as British Columbia!

Its super duper cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
This is the greatest thing I ever read if you aren't a Dawson's Creek fan you will liked and be a fan so readed.

Its super duper aseome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dawson's Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners, Volume 2, the Southern Peaks
Published in Paperback by Blue Clover Pr (01 September, 1995)
Authors: Louis W., II Dawson and Michael Kennedy
Average review score:

4 season guide to Colorado 14ers
I've read seemingly every 14er guide available. Much of the information overlaps as one can imagine. However, what really sets this (and the companion volume as well) one apart is the truly four season information that it provides. Louis gives you ratings for summer and snow climbs as well as ski descents. None of the other 14er guides I've read give you that. These volumes are often compared to Gerry Roach's books which are excellent in their own right. However, in my mind the information in Louis Dawson's guides is better as many of us climb in seasons other than summer!

Very comprehensive and easy to navigate...
I own many trail guide books and this one is far and above all of them. The book is logically structured, maps and photos are very helpful and directions are clear. Dawson has obvioulsy dedicated a great part of his life hiking Colorado and has documented his travels well in this book. All routes are rated and shown in pictures of the mountain. If you buy one Colorado 14er guide book, buy this one.

I'd Be Lost Without It
Finally, a book that is worth its weight in your backpack. Lou Dawson has done it right. Great photos, incredible maps and route descriptions that make sense and are easy to follow. All you have to do is compare Lou's book to any other title to the shelf to see that his book is the one to have.

Entering Tenebrea Book One
Published in Unknown Binding by Pocket Star (April, 2001)
Authors: Roxann Dawson and Daniel Graham
Average review score:

War and One woman's vengeance!
Kudos to Roxann Dawson and Daniel Graham in starting this
gripping series about a young woman thirst for revenge against the backdrop of emerging interstellar war! Andrea Flores, a married young woman and mother of a infant daughter sees her life shattered; when offworld terrorists attack killing her husband and infant daughter! Now Andrea becomes a hardened avenger who seeks vengeance against the killers.Andrea must leave Earth and go to the alien Jod homeworld and join their elite military service called Tenebrea in the hopes of finding the killers! She endure a harsh training and prejudice of the Jod in her struggle and finally going undercover to the terrorists' homeworld, Cor Ordinate and lead a rebellion of clones! The authors have written superior military sf saga about a young woman who immediately gets our sympathy in her struggles to find justice for her murdered family. The authors' world-building skills are above-average in creating Jod civilization and fascist Cor Ordinate.I especially like the rugged scenes of the training of Tenebrea and finally gripping battle scenes upon Cor Ordinate.Bring on the next Andrea Flores novel, I want more!
Cor Ordinate
homeworld

Entering Tenebrea leaves you wanting more!!!!
Wow is the first word out of my mouth when I finished this first book of the trilogy. I immediately wanted the story to go on so I could see what happens next. I couldn't put it down!! I was lucky enough to buy it when Roxann was signing them at a convention. I read the entire book in one day!! If you like military and sci-fi stuff, you will love this one!! Bravo to both Roxann and Daniel for such an entertaining and thought provoking book!! Can't wait for the next installment coming out soon!!

Exciting and Entertaining
I was lucky enough to pick up this book at a book signing and so I've got a signed hard-backed special edition!!! The cover is by the 4X award winning artist, Dan Curry -- he's done some of the coolest visual effects you see in Hollywood. And the book was a real page-turner!! Roxann Dawson is as talented a writer as she is an actress -- and she's really gorgeous in person. Dan Graham seems like a bit of a character and I think his training the Army Rangers paid off in the way he wrote about military exercises and strategy. The whole book was very well written and I'm looking forward to the next book. As a matter of fact, I came to Amazon.com to see if they were carrying it yet. I hope it comes out in hardback, too, so I can get one of the copies. Anyone know how I can get it signed? I wouldn't mind seeing Roxann again!! ;-)

Full of memories
Julia Dawson's tales of her family growing up in Indiana is a fascinating read. Her vivid details of the lives and times lets you smell the aroma of fresh bread baking on the old kitchen range, feel the warmth of the cloths hung by the oven door on chilly morning and hear the squeaks and groans of the old organ as the children play their self-composed melodies. Julia interweaves her family's history with the national and world events of the time to keep the story in perspective. The book is guaranteed to revive some of your own personal memories of the past.

A book for all ages!

Nature Bound Pocket Field Guide
Published in Paperback by Pacific Press Publishing Association (October, 1990)
Author: Ron Dawson
Average review score:

Concise, thorough and practical...
I have used this book since it came out in 1990 and continue to find it handy in the field. It covers everything you need to know for survival in the North American woods. Everyone who goes backpacking with me wants one! The photos of the edibles/poisonous plants are most excellent, as are the write-ups & historical uses. It easily fits in a cargo style pocket or in your pack. You'll find first aid and basic survival skills discussed in detail...no fluff.

Perhaps the best pocket size practical survival guide
This combines simple, easy to use instructions on basic survival actions that any hiker or camper can use with a great color-photo index and directions to edible and poisonous plants, and a first aid guide. If you only want to carry one little book, this is a great one to choose!

A great, portable plant identification guide.get it.
This Book has more edible and poisonous plant identification info than any other pocket guide i've ever seen.Where bigger tomes many times ue line drawings which are less than useless for identifying plants,Nature Bound has actual photos! Also brief preparation information and survival instructions that are sure to help someone that finds themselves lost in the wilderness. The fire starting in particular is codensed, but much better than I would have expected in a nature guide. The size is very handy;it will fit in the smallest buttpack, or even pocket. You will actually have it when you need it!I bought mine in 1987,and it's still the best i've found.
